Uganda has been confirmed among more than 100 countries whose citizens can travel to South Africa without obtaining a visa in advance for Diplomatic,Official and Service passport holders, following the publication of the country’s updated visa exemption list by the South African Department of Home Affairs.
The updated list covers countries from Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, reaffirming South Africa’s commitment to facilitating travel, tourism, business, and diplomatic engagement with partner nations.
Among the African countries benefiting from the visa-free arrangement are Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Morocco, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Lesotho, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Liberia, Guinea, Benin, Gabon, Mali, Niger, Cape Verde, Comoros, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The exemption also extends to citizens of numerous countries outside Africa, including nations across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean, making South Africa one of the continent’s most accessible destinations for international visitors.
In addition, holders of African Union Laissez-Passer and United Nations Laissez-Passer travel documents are eligible for visa-free entry, reflecting South Africa’s support for regional integration and international cooperation. For Ugandan travellers, the visa-free arrangement offers easier access to South Africa for tourism, business, education, sporting events, conferences, and family visits. It also reduces the administrative burden and costs associated with applying for a visa before travel.
Travellers are, however, advised to ensure they meet South Africa’s entry requirements, including holding a valid passport and complying with the permitted length of stay and other immigration regulations applicable to visa-exempt visitors.
The updated visa exemption list is expected to strengthen travel, trade, investment, and people-to-people connections between South Africa and countries across the continent and beyond, while supporting tourism and economic growth. Prospective travellers are encouraged to confirm the latest immigration requirements with the South African Department of Home Affairs or the nearest South African diplomatic mission before making travel arrangements, as entry conditions may be updated from time to time.
