The countdown has officially begun for a historic moment in Ugandan motorsport after the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) formally announced that the Fourth Round of the 2026 FMU National Rally Championship (NRC) will be hosted in the Teso sub-region for the very first time. Scheduled for 23–25 July 2026, the groundbreaking event will take place across Soroti and Katakwi districts, marking the debut of a National Rally Championship round in the region and bringing one of Uganda’s biggest sporting spectacles to Eastern Uganda.
A courtesy meeting with H.E. Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of Uganda, where an FMU delegation led by FMU Patron Hon. Micheal Mukula Senior officially presented the championship to the country’s second-highest office. Joining the delegation were FMU official Saead Kakeeto and Eastern Motor Club President Kees Kagolo, whose club has been entrusted with organizing the highly anticipated championship round, a major milestone for motorsport hosting the National Rally Championship in Teso represents another significant step in FMU’s mission of expanding motorsport across Uganda by taking top-level competition to new regions.
The championship is expected to attract more than 40 rally crews from across the country, setting the stage for an exciting battle as drivers chase valuable championship points in what promises to be one of the season’s most competitive rounds, fans can expect three days of thrilling action featuring Uganda’s finest rally drivers navigating the challenging roads of Soroti and Katakwi. Beyond the sporting excitement, the championship is projected to deliver a major economic boost to the Teso region, organizers estimate that the event will attract over 5,000 motorsport fans, officials, competitors, sponsors and tourists, generating approximately UGX 1.5 billion for the local economy hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, transport operators, entertainment venues, supermarkets and other businesses are all expected to benefit from the influx of visitors during the championship weekend. The event also presents a unique opportunity to showcase the beauty, hospitality and tourism potential of the Teso sub-region to thousands of visitors from across Uganda and beyond.
The championship has received strong backing from national leaders, highlighting the growing recognition of motorsport’s contribution to sports tourism and economic development.
Hon. Peter Ogwang and Hon. Calvin Ecodu are expected to officiate the ceremonial flag-off of the rally in Soroti, while H.E. Vice President Jessica Alupo will receive the competitors at the finish in Katakwi before presiding over the official prize-giving ceremony. FMU expressed its sincere appreciation to the Vice President for her generous support and commitment towards promoting sports and regional development. With preparations entering the final stretch, the Eastern Motor Club, under the leadership of President Kees Kagolo, is working closely with FMU to deliver an unforgettable championship worthy of its historic status.
As anticipation builds, Uganda’s motorsport fraternity now turns its attention to Teso, where history will be written as the region hosts its first-ever FMU National Rally Championship round.
From 23–25 July, the engines will roar, the competition will intensify, and Teso will take centre stage as Uganda’s newest motorsport destination. All roads lead to Soroti and Katakwi for what promises to be a spectacular celebration of speed, competition and community.
