Hassan Alwi Jr delivered another championship-defining performance as he claimed victory at the KCB National Rally Championship (NRC) Round 4, the EMC Soroti-Katakwi Rally, further strengthening his bid for a maiden Uganda National Rally Championship title. Competing in the first-ever National Rally Championship event staged in the Teso sub-region, Alwi and navigator Musa Nsubuga mastered the demanding and unfamiliar roads of Soroti, Amuria, and Katakwi to secure their third NRC victory of the 2026 season.
Driving their Ford Fiesta Proto, the pair completed the rally’s 136.02 competitive kilometres in a winning time of 1:13:17.4, combining outright speed with consistency on the dusty stages where every crew was forced to create fresh pace notes due to the rally’s new route. The victory extends Alwi’s lead at the top of the championship standings and places him firmly on course to capture the national crown that has narrowly eluded him in previous seasons.
Moses Lumala, also behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Proto, mounted a determined challenge throughout the rally but ultimately settled for second place, finishing just 23 seconds behind the winners. Jonas Matayo Kansiime completed the podium after an impressive drive in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII, stopping the clock at 1:16:00.8.
The Eastern Motor Club deserves credit for successfully organizing the historic event, which brought Uganda’s premier rally championship to the Teso region for the first time. The new terrain tested crews with fast, dusty sections and limited local knowledge, making precision, teamwork, and adaptability essential.
Alwi’s composed performance once again highlighted why he has emerged as the benchmark in this year’s championship. Rather than taking unnecessary risks, the championship leader balanced pace with reliability to collect maximum points at a crucial stage of the season.
With four rounds now completed, attention shifts to Round Five, where competitors will battle in the Rwenzori region this September. As the championship enters its decisive phase, Alwi carries significant momentum and an increasingly commanding advantage in the title race.
Should he maintain his current form over the remaining rounds, 2026 could finally become the year Hassan Alwi Jr realizes his long-held ambition of being crowned Uganda National Rally Champion.
