The Ministry of Works has secured commitments from the Uganda Police Force and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to relocate facilities affected by the Busega–Mpigi Expressway project, paving the way for road construction to proceed despite unresolved compensation claims.

Minister of State for Works, Hon. Siraji Ali, met Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba and Alex Gisagara, Advisor for Engineering Services at NWSC, who represented the corporation’s Managing Director, to address outstanding relocation and compensation issues along the expressway. The minister was accompanied by Ivan Tugume, the Ministry’s Principal Land Officer, and members of the project team.
The Central Police Station in Mpigi, located in the Katonga Region, and NWSC offices are situated within the expressway’s right of way. Their relocation arrangements have remained unresolved since 2023, presenting a challenge to the progress of road works.
Following the meeting, both the police and NWSC agreed to relocate their affected facilities next week, allowing construction activities to proceed while awaiting payment of their respective compensation claims. The agreement marks a significant step towards resolving obstacles affecting the implementation of the expressway project.
The minister also visited Kyobe Kizito, a Project Affected Person (PAP) at Lungala in Mpigi District, to engage with him over his compensation concerns. However, Kyobe’s case remains before court, leaving its resolution pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
