Tinubu set to attend G20 leaders’ summit in Rio de Janeiro

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja on Sunday evening for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the highly anticipated G20 Leaders’ Summit. This marks a significant moment for Nigeria, as the president joins world leaders to address pressing global economic challenges, climate change, and international cooperation.

The G20 Summit, bringing together leaders from the world’s largest economies, is an opportunity for Nigeria to deepen its diplomatic ties and showcase its economic potential. Although Nigeria is not a G20 member, President Tinubu’s attendance signals the country’s strategic interest in shaping global economic policies.

During the summit, Tinubu is expected to participate in discussions on sustainable development, global trade, and technological advancements, while also addressing issues unique to developing economies. Sources at the presidency confirm that the president will engage in bilateral meetings with key G20 leaders to strengthen Nigeria’s partnerships and attract investments, particularly in critical sectors such as energy, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The trip underscores Tinubu’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a vital player in global affairs. This follows his recent engagements at the United Nations General Assembly, where he advocated for equitable global governance and greater support for Africa’s development.

As the summit commences, all eyes will be on the outcomes of the deliberations and how President Tinubu leverages this platform to advance Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.

The president is accompanied by key members of his cabinet and advisers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and Minister of Finance Wale Edun.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit is set to run from November 20 to November 22.
