Uganda’s Silverbacks Unveil Squad For Crucial FIBA World Cup Qualifiers Camp

Uganda’s national basketball team, the Silverbacks, announced their squad for the third window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers, with preparations set to intensify ahead of the decisive matches in Luanda, Angola. The roster was unveiled by the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) this week, signaling the start of the country’s final build-up toward one of the continent’s most competitive qualification stages.

Head coach Mandy Juruni will lead a residential training camp in Kigali, Rwanda, from today June 20 to June 30, where the team is expected to fine-tune tactics, strengthen chemistry, and sharpen its competitive edge before heading to Angola. The camp is viewed as a critical phase in Uganda’s quest to secure a place at the prestigious FIBA Basketball World Cup.

One of the standout selections is highly-rated National Basketball League youngster Edrine Ekau, who has earned a place in the national setup following a string of impressive performances. The emerging talent joins an experienced core that includes Fayed Baale, Peter Obleng, Robinson Odoch Opong, Blessed Phillip Mbogo, and Nike Sibande Dejur, creating a balanced squad blending youth, athleticism, and international experience.

The technical bench is headed by Juruni, assisted by Andrew Tendo and Ben Komakech. The backroom staff also features team doctor Vincent Etyang and team manager Albert Ahabwe, both of whom will play vital roles in ensuring the squad remains physically prepared and operationally efficient throughout the qualification campaign.

With the African qualifiers entering a decisive stage, Uganda will be aiming to build on previous performances and challenge some of the continent’s basketball powerhouses. The Silverbacks carry the hopes of a passionate basketball nation as they prepare to compete for a coveted place on the global stage, with fans eagerly anticipating another chapter in the team’s growing international journey.
