Vipers SC took a commanding stride toward clinching the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League (UPL) title with a sensational 6-0 demolition of Mbale Heroes FC on Wednesday. A masterclass performance by captain Milton Karisa, who netted twice and provided an assist, sent a clear message to title rivals as the Venoms now need just three points from their remaining three fixtures to be crowned champions.
Karisa opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and was instrumental throughout, combining superbly with Allan Okello and Abubakar Walusimbi. Okello and Yunus Ssentamu found the back of the net in the first half, while second-half goals from Mohammed Salem and Kenneth Kimera completed the rout at St. Mary’s Stadium. The Vipers’ clinical display came without a single booking, underscoring their discipline and dominance.

Elsewhere, the title race saw further twists as NEC FC held BUL FC to a 1-1 draw, a result that all but sealed BUL’s faint title hopes. BUL’s goalkeeper, Joel Mutakubwa, was named man of the match, keeping his side afloat with a string of vital saves. The result was symbolic revenge for BUL, who were edged out of last season’s title race by SC Villa under controversial circumstances.
In a dramatic showdown between giants SC Villa and KCCA FC, both sides settled for a 2-2 stalemate at the Muteesa II Stadium. Emmanuel Anyama dazzled with a brace for KCCA, while Charles Lwanga and Reagan Mpande were on target for the Jogoos. Tensions flared with yellow cards shown to James Mubeezi and Sula Matovu in a high-octane encounter. Anyama was deservedly named man of the match.
All eyes now turn to Match Day 28 on Saturday, with all matches set to kick off simultaneously at 4:00 PM. With three games remaining, Vipers SC stands on the cusp of history, needing just one more victory to seal the league crown. The countdown to glory has officially begun.
