Uganda is gearing up to host the 2026 Africa Aquatics Zone III Championship in Kampala from October 21–25, with one main goal: winning the overall title for the fourth time in a row.
After claiming victories in Rwanda (2023), Burundi (2024), and Kenya (2025), Team Uganda is ready to defend its crown on home ground. The 5-day event will welcome athletes from seven nations—Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, and Sudan—to compete in swimming, water polo, open water racing, and masters events.
Pool swimming and water polo will take place at Kampala International School Uganda (KISU) in Bukoto, while the open water races will be hosted at the Entebbe Sailing Club. Most visiting teams and primary swimmers will stay together at Speke Resort Munyonyo to build team spirit throughout the tournament.
As the host nation, Uganda is taking full advantage of the rules by fielding two squads Team A and Team B bringing their roster to a record 89 swimmers and 22 water polo players.
Preparations are already well underway with a six-day training camp. Over 80% of the athletes are already training together, while a few international-based swimmers will join closer to the start date.
Moses Mwase, Uganda Aquatics President, on taking advantage of host privileges:
“Because we are hosting, we can enter two teams. This gives more of our athletes a chance to compete at the highest level—allowing us to select four top swimmers per age group instead of just two.”
